the us started to bomb iraq last night our time (early in the morning this morning, 20 march, baghdad time). immediately, thousands of protesters took to the street despite a brief drench of rain. organized and urged by sf.indymedia.com amongst others, this morning starting at 7am, thousands blocked intersections in dozens of locations around the city, prompting at least one local newscaster to tell people to avoid san francisco altogether. i called in "half sick", and leanne and i walked out to the civic center at lunch.
