Friday, November 30, 2001 i put many of the leftovers and leftover ingredients together to make an uber-leftover meal tonight and i think marlena spieler would be proud. lovely marlena and alan graced us wednesday night with their presence, various fresh herbs and vegetables, and a fabulous dinner. we were thrilled when we were treated to a repeat performance again last night, and david and blake came to round out the rowdy crowd.

i can't even begin to recount the menus, but the ingredients included chickpeas, rocket (say that with a british accent), zucchini and eggplant, tomatoes and garlic and pasta and cream, dainty pink turnips, frilly dill and chervil, pomegranates and persimmons with baby lettuces, flat-leaf parsely (my secret unsung love), potatoes and cumin, cumin, cumin, garlic, goat and sheep and cow's cheeses including boursin, drunken goat, cave-aged gruyere, a wonderfully mild feta (bulgarian?), wines and sparkling waters, cumin and garlic, broken bread, friends and stories, newfound and old, and and and and and ...

top it off in the morning with peets coffee and croissants from citizen cake, and we're feeling on top of the world, special, lucky, warm and well-fed.

Friday, September 14, 2001 thank goodness we and everyone we know are allright as far as we know. monday, mom and dad landed at SFO returning from their trip to Ireland, literally twelve hours before the catastrophe began. plenty of friends of friends are grieving directly, and our hearts go out to all ...

Wednesday, July 25, 2001 we're home now! caught a US Airways flight from Manchester to Philadelphia, and from there to sacramento via salt lake city on Delta...finally getting home around 1:00 AM local time.

went on a nice ghost walk around york, and then we proceeded to beverly and saw the minster where the relatives were married in 1826 - more on this later. we then sallied forth up the east yorkshire coast to filey...finally catching a train to manchester, because gatwick was a little too crowded.

Wednesday, July 18, 2001 hi all...we are here in york now. we saw where will hung out in stratford, and thanks to debbie, we caught a play by the royal shakespeare company. we then spent three lovely days on the canals in a narrowboat. we also visited a minister in lichfield where they apparently had the skull of st. chad on display for passers by in the medieval days (you remember chads don't you?). anyway, we are here in york and going to visit a medieval dungeon. cheers for now!

cheerio,

Thursday, July 05, 2001 greetings from london

leanne and i met rick and deb at brown's today for high tea. they were pretty tired, in that post-trans-atlantic-flight state of mixed excitement and fatigue... trying to remember eachother's names, and things like that. we were delighted to meet them! we fly tomorrow out through thunderstormy london skies back to foggy san francisco.

just heard a thunderclap as punctuation!

we got to share our vacation roundup, and listen to a bit of their plans gelling. keep a watch out here for the next watsonhousetraveller photo album extravaganza! we should have quite a collection by the end of summer!

Sunday, May 06, 2001 Opps! Sorry Moya, I thought Easter was next week...must have been using the old Alexandrian astronomers' method of computing Easter rather than consulting a calendar...by the way...see the watson history link on the sacramento web page. Looking forward to seeing everyone at Mum's day.

"It's not much of a cheese shop really, is it?"
"finest in the district, sir."
"And what leads you to that conclusion?"
"Well, it's so clean."

Monday, April 30, 2001 mom and dad left for south africa on april 15th - easter sunday. we siblings have been remiss at keeping in touch with eachother since then -- i don't believe any of us have even talked since before then. our easters were spent apart -- and our parents' on a plane.

we think they are coming back sometime soon - i think this week! we are excited to hear a full report of the experience, and to add to the photo albums! keep a look out!

Monday, December 25, 2000 my grandfather Norman Mason Black used to say there are two types of people in the world:

the irish

and those that wish they were

i'm amending that today to say that the two types actually are:

the watsons

those that wish they were

happy happy happy happy happy happy christmas to all watsons in houses far and wide the world over; happy christmas to the watson wannabes as well!

Saturday, December 16, 2000 put up spotlights i say! as many lights as you like. the republicans are back in office, and there will soon be cheap oil and abundant sources of energy (just kidding)....i thought i would make some outrageous claim for my first blogger post. now...where can i get socks online for rob's christmas present? don't you think that there should be a "socks.com?" call the venture capitalists!

cheers for now.

Thursday, December 07, 2000 no lights this year. this reminds me of nixon. i was in grade school or something similar. then all the tv shows were replaced by long drawn-out political proceedings. what a waste. we should have had the lights.

Tuesday, November 28, 2000 here we are on a foggy tuesday morning - the fog seems a little later this year than usual, but the cold feels right on target. wanda was accidentally left out in the back yard last night and i was awakened to clawing noises at the back door. today, it almost looks as if the old rhododendrons in the yard might bloom again - resurrected!
